State Wide Access
The Dewan Bahasa Public Library will honour cards in good standing from other District
Libraries across the state.
New Cards
In order to get your first library card we request to see an identity cad and proof
of your current address. A current driver's license or a passport (if you are from
other country) will suffice for both. If your license does not reflect your current
address, a piece of mail or a bill you have received will verify your address.
Every member will only be given two library cards for borrowing books for a period
of two weeks. Books borrowed should be returned to the library immediately on or
before due date.
For children from under 12 of age, we need his or her birth certificate and a copy
of parent's or guardian's identity card. Children will only be given or issued 2
library cards and the lending period is also 2 weeks.
Replacement Cards
We will replace a new replacement card if your card is lost or broken. There is no
extra cost for the card's replacement and we remind you to take care of your library
cards and report immediately if it is lost or stolen.
Change of Old Library Card and Membership
A new replacement card will be issued if the old card is brought in at the time of
replacement, ie upon changing from children to young people cards (at the age of
12), and from young people card to adult card (at the age of 21).
Check Out Policies
You are required to have your library cards presented at the time of check out.
Books can be borrowed for two weeks and can be extended upon request except for books
in the reserve list.
Magazines/other serial materials are not allowed to be checked out. The backdated
issues are available upon request. Video and audio cassettes can only be used in
the premises.
Bulk Loan Services Guidelines
-
Long term loans of materials are available from the DBP
Library on a walk in basis. If more than 25 items are borrowed, it is called bulk
loan. Long term loans are available to Government departments and schools of all
types, as well as house-bound readers.
-
In general, the loan period for books is three months.
Some materials may have a shorter loan period.
-
Reserves may be placed on items in circulation.
-
Loans may be renewed if there are no reserves pending.
-
The selection of materials, provision of containers, and
transportation of bulk loans to and from the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Library is
the responsibility of the borrowing library or institution.
-
When a loan is taken for school use, the school librarian
is responsible for borrowing the materials. Any teacher who wishes to select materials
from the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustala Library must present a School Authorization Slip
signed by the librarian (or the headmaster/principal if there is no librarian) for
each school year.
-
Materials borrowed for use by a firms agency must be entertained
by the agency's librarian. If the agency has no librarian, the director or any other
personals designated by the director may act on his behalf.
Policy on Over dues and Lost Materials
Borrowing libraries are sent lists of overdue materials on a regular basis. If a
library has overdue materials on reserve for another library, the Bulk Loan Section
may recall the item by phone.
Libraries are requested to replace lost or damaged materials rather than pay for
them. If an item is out-of-print, libraries may replace the item with the price when
the materials were first purchased. If a library prefers to be billed for lost items,
the library should notify the DBP Library as soon as possible.
The DBP Library will purchase replacements for any materials overdue for more than
one year, libraries will be billed for this replacement cost. It is most important,
therefore, that libraries make every effort to locate library materials before reaching
one-year overdue status.
Bill payments should be sent to the Chief Clerk, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Library
in Bandar Seri Begawan. A copy of the bill must accompany payment.
Any borrowing library having $300 of outstanding bills will be denied all State Library
Loan services until the account is settled.
